The air valve is a special valve used to prevent the decompression wave from causing negative pressure in the pipe during transient processes. It is usually installed at a high point where the dynamic water pressure is low during normal operation of the pipeline, and liquid column separation may occur during transient flow. Air is sucked in when the pressure in the pipe is lower than atmospheric pressure, and air is discharged when the pressure in the pipe rises above atmospheric pressure. During the exhaust process, the valve can automatically close when the liquid in the pipe fills the pipe, preventing the liquid from leaking into the atmosphere.The air valve is a respirator for pipelines and a guarantor of pipeline safety. It is also called a ventilation valve and an exhaust valve. However, it has an inhalation function, so it is more accurate to call it an air valve.
